Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, along with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Malawi Parliamentary Conservation Caucus (MPCC), NGOs, scientists, policy-makers, and the general public are calling for a ban on the production and use of thin plastics in Malawi.
On 16 April 2019, the Supreme Court of Malawi can rule to ban all thin plastics (including plastic bags) which currently pollute and damage the country's environment.
A recent survey found that of those asked, 94% agreed with the ban.
